Drive the Mission with a Qualified VisionGREAT LEADERS HAVE CLARITY OF PURPOSE![]() Great leaders have uncovered their truth and gained the clarity in knowing exactly what passionately fulfills them. They have a clear understanding of why “it” is important and an action map that guides them in boldly expressing their purpose. These leaders qualified their vision and have compelling evidence that their ideas are deeply meaningful and the timing is right for implementation. Disqualified Vision I am an avid cyclist and get the opportunity of riding my bike almost year -round. Living in the southwestern United States, I have friends that come to visit from the mid-west on a frequent basis. I love showing them the great mountain bike trails and taking them on my favorite club rides. One of my friends suggested that I start a bicycle touring company here is Tucson. I thought that making money at something that I love was a great idea. I contacted my local bike shop and got pricing on equipment. I researched the resorts in town and negotiated pricing at high -end properties for guests to stay while on the tour. We also found food vendors that would supply the nutrition before, during and after the rides. ![]() At the time, I was passionate about creating the bicycle touring company. Thankfully I was able to channel my emotions and use my critical thinking skills. I found that there wouldn’t be enough profit for doing tours only a few months out of the year. In order for it to work, we would have to be in other markets during the off-season. Painfully, I decided to disqualify my vision for Breakaway Bike Tours. I also realized that being a tour operator really wouldn’t fulfill my inner passion. Finding my purpose would take a few more years. Qualify Your Leadership Vision ![]() 1. Do you know your purpose? Take time for deep introspection that will enable you to gain clarity in uncovering what is really important and why it is important. When you discover this, you will naturally uncover deeper strengths that will propel you in boldly expressing it. 2. When discovering an idea that stirs up deep emotions, walk but don’t run towards it. Will the idea compliment your purpose? Is it possible for your mission to be fluid and yet move you towards your vision? What would make your idea unique and standout in a crowded market? Tap into your critical thinking skills and then move forward if appropriate. Great leaders become fearless when they are boldly expressing their purpose. Critical thinking is simple: It is merely the ability to understand why things are the way they are and to understand the potential consequences of actions. Are you already a member of our community?
