Great Leaders Have Active Imaginations
HOW TO FAIL YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS
Are you afraid to fail? Have you ever felt that awkward feeling that stops you in your tracks? You know it's time to take action and do something with your life. Maybe you've known it for some time now. Then, questions pop into your head: what if everything goes wrong? What if you fail? So, you decide to stay where you are and do nothing. The problem is, if you don't make mistakes, you will never achieve your goals. You won't get the skills you need to get to the next level. That’s the way life works. If you don’t fail, you don’t succeed.
So, how can we overcome the fear of failure? And how can we accept it as a part of the process of reaching our goals?
IMAGINE YOUR IDEAL FUTURE AND FAIL YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS
If you want to overcome the fear of failure, you have to set your eyes on the positive outcome you want to achieve. It needs to be so real that your desire to get there is bigger than your fears.
The answer is quite simple. Here are four things that I do:
1. Imagine the future you want. The next time you feel the fear of failure taking over, close your eyes and put yourself in the best possible scenario for your outcome. Just imagine you are already there. What is it like? How do you feel? Allow your imagination to take over and think about every possible detail. Stay in that place for as long as you can. As you allow yourself to feel what success is like, your fear of failure will start fading away. You won't be thinking any longer about all the things that could go wrong.
2. Take immediate action to achieve your goals. Taking massive action will enable you to replace fear with inspiration. Choosing the emotion of motivation will be much easier than you think.
3. Notice what happens, and evaluate your progress. We have to make certain assumptions in charting a course to a new destination. Measuring the effectiveness of your activity and refining goals along the way is often necessary.
4. Change what you do until you get your desired outcome. Many people get attached to an activity and feel like a failure when the activity isn’t productive in going after the goal. Choose a new activity or short-term goal and pursue it with passion. If you fail to achieve the short-term goal, reset it and restart.
