HOW TO HAVE ENDLESS MOTIVATION TO OVERCOME ANY CHALLENGE

FUEL THE HYPER PERFORMANCE MOTIVATION ENGINE LIKE AN UNCOMMON LEADER

HOW TO HAVE ENDLESS MOTIVATION TO OVERCOME ANY CHALLENGE

One of the biggest threats to your business is a competitor that is purpose driven, #newmindsetacademy, #EricMIller
Have you ever wondered how legendary greats like Michael Jordan, Kerri Walsh Jennings, and Michael Phelps were motivated to perform at mythical levels? To me, it seemed as if they were superheroes. They appeared to have endless motivation to overcome any challenge that came their way.

You may or may not be an athlete, but would you do the job that you're doing right now if you didn't get any external reward for doing it? I’m talking about things like salary, acknowledgment from peers, and words of encouragement for a job well done.

“If those are the only things that motivate you, then maybe it's time to rethink your career.”
Don’t get me wrong I’m sure that Michael Jordan, Kerri Walsh Jennings, and Michael Phelps all appreciated the external rewards for a job well done. You should enjoy them also, but they shouldn't be your sole motivation to perform at your peak.

Here's the thing: external rewards are NOT under your control, they come and go. Your income can drop, your peers might shift their focus to the new and upcoming superstar. In either case, the reward you're striving for could be gone in an instant and your motivation could disappear like the absence of wind in a set of sails.
It's hard to develop your full potential under those circumstances. If you want to have sustainable motivation, you need to understand how the motivation engine gets its fuel.

At the core of your motivation engine is your purpose. By doing things that are aligned with your purpose, you'll get the strength to overcome all the challenges on your journey.

Like with other emotions, motivation is only temporary. We have to dig deep when times are tough and look for inspiration that will propel us forward. I believe that Michael Jordan, Kerri Walsh Jennings, and Michael Phelps, all know that they had to clearly define their purpose, so they could keep the motivation engine fueled.

SEVEN QUESTIONS TO ANSWER THAT WILL FUEL YOUR HYPER PERFORMANCE MOTIVATION ENGINE

  1. What do you enjoy doing? What makes you jump out of bed Monday morning? What lights you up?
  2. If you could do just one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
  3. What excites you and gives you energy even just by thinking about it?
  4. What about the world makes your blood boil with frustration?
  5. What career path attracts you the most?
  6. If resources where no object, what will you ideally be doing with your life?
  7. Let's get down to the details here ...  what is the purpose of living your life?
