WHAT IS YOUR CRITICAL ROLE IN BEING A LEADER?

#EricMiller, I am capable of amazing things
When the shit hits the fans during a business apocalypse do you know your critical role as a leader? Defining where you fit in during tough times gives the octane boost in getting to the finish line. Great leaders have a deep sense of purpose that is abundantly clear to their team.

Uncovering Core Responsibilities

Defining the core responsibility as a leader will create an excellence reflex. As an empowered leader you will know “what” you are doing, “why” you are doing it and “where” you fit into the mission.

Great leaders know the importance of having detailed job descriptions for every stakeholder.
Uncovering a singleness of purpose gives the leader a measuring device for team member’s performance. In other words, creating a mission statement for every team member will determine “what” they are doing, “why” they are doing it and “where” each member fits into the mission.

Two Steps Away from Clarity of Purpose

Step 1. Being clear about the organizations mission, create a one sentence mission statement as a leader. Using your job description, determine why you are there, and where you fit in as a leader. Take some reflective time and meditate and then narrow it down to only one sentence, the key elements of your purpose.

Step 2. Have each team member reflect on their job description. Ask them to consider why they are working for the company and where they contribute to the mission. Follow up with them in a scheduled meeting and discuss the elements of their mission statement. Consider their core values and how they match up with the values of the organization. If you’ve  hired well, you will have the right person in place that makes the maximum business impact.

When the culture is clear about the where each person fits in, it creates magical team performance. The organization becomes unstoppable in achieving business success.
